BISTRACK

Redesign of Kit Configuration

Epicor's BisTrack software represents a quantum leap for retail operations, offering an integrated ecosystem for business management. As the product designer for BisTrack, I had the privilege of spearheading the design for its transformative 'Kit Configuration' feature. This function is a cornerstone of the sales order module, enabling users to efficiently assemble product kits, like door assembly kits, with ease and precision.

Project Synopsis

Challenges Addressed

BisTrack, initially a downloadable application, was on the cusp of a major evolution: transitioning to a cloud-based system aligned with Epicor’s exclusive design framework. A pivotal feature, 'Kit Configuration', was selected for an overhaul to enhance cloud UX. The central challenge was to demystify the process of selecting compatible components for a product kit, ensuring a user-friendly interface that provided immediate pricing and compatibility feedback.

Role & Strategy

As the lead principal UX designer, with a team of designers, analysts, and developers, I embarked on redesigning the 'Kit Configuration' feature. The redesign was intricately tied to the Epicor design system and framework, incorporating direct feedback from users and thorough competitor analysis. The goal was to craft a sophisticated yet intuitive step-by-step process for building custom kits, particularly in the lumber domain, necessitating selections from door types to finishing touches like latches and locks.

Explorations

Our methodical design process commenced with a deep dive into the user feedback and Epicor’s UX framework during an intensive onboarding and kickoff phase. This set the stage for a comprehensive product audit and competitive landscape analysis, driving home the need for a unique customer journey that would elevate BisTrack’s standing in the marketplace.

We iterated from low-fidelity wireframes, enriched by feedback loops, to high-fidelity prototypes that resonated with the users and adhered to the new UX framework. In collaboration with stakeholders and product managers, the designs evolved to seamlessly integrate the functional requirements with the aesthetics dictated by the Epicor design system.

Design Journey

Solutions & Outcomes

The reimagined 'Kit Configuration' interface emerged as an intuitive, interactive tool that empowers users to:

  • Visually select core components, such as door materials, with associated imagery and pricing.

  • Delve into detailed descriptions, stock availability, and specifications for each selected element.

  • Choose supplementary components from a curated list, ensuring every addition is compatible and appropriate.

  • Witness the immediate reflection of cost implications as they customize their kit, enhancing transparency and decision-making.

The final design provided a cohesive, step-by-step configuration experience, allowing users to effortlessly combine components while being informed of the financial impact in real-time. This transformation not only streamlined the order placement process but also fortified user confidence in kit assembly, marking a significant milestone in BisTrack’s evolution to a cloud-based retail powerhouse
